HB1220 Recessed Blind Extrusion

Maintaining the smooth lines of modern design creates the need to hide away componentry belonging to home entertainment systems and household furnishings.

The new HB 1220 Recessed Blind Extrusion from Halliday & Baillie is a full extrusion system that is installed into the ceiling cavity and sits flush to the surface. Designed with electric blinds and movie screens in mind, it comes with a cover flap for seamless ascent and storage of components.

The extrusion is available in raw or anodised 3-metre lengths and has available as an optional extra the HB 1225 end caps. These are ideal when you’re detailing in a highly visible spot, such as in the centre of a room.

Also available is the HB 1240 single side system, which is used when there is limited cavity space in the ceiling but a simple cover flap is required.

Should you wish to powder coat the products it is strongly recommended that you purchase the extrusion in an anodised finish as this is crucial to the tolerances of the flap system.

SUMMARY: A Recessed Blind Extrusion system inserted into the ceiling allowing for electric blinds and movie screens to be neatly packed away when not in use.

This product was  a collaberation between Daniel Marshall Architects and Halliday Baillie

My clients demand practical but refined architectural solutions and it is a constant challenge to deliver a minimal aesthetic while keeping within a budget.

Hiding away the workings of blinds can be a tricky and expensive process and our office has spent a lot of time developing a system to resolve this. We worked though the prototypes of the system and incorporated them into houses that we were building. We found that using an aluminium extrusion, rebated into the ceiling and coloured to match the aluminium joinery works well as the profile ‘disappears’ into the window joinery. The ‘flap’ clicks into place once the blinds are installed, completely hiding them. We have found that not only are our clients thrilled with the result, but even our builders are enthusiastic about the system.

We have worked with Halliday & Baillie to manufacture our system so that it can be available to all designers. I am very enthusiastic as I knew it will provide a cost effective and aesthetically pleasing solution that would work in a range of applications.
